We’re Back

Welcome to FOCUS ON ALS ( Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). A site dedicated to people whose lives have been jolted by a devious disease that can mummify the most vivacious body while leaving them in complete consciousness. A disease that will challenge your courage,  your faith,   your love,  and your will to fight for your life, your family,  and your right to stay in control of your comfort and care. A disease that is commonly known as Lou Gehrigs’ disease which is a motor neuron disease characterized by progressive degeneration of the cerebral cortex and spinal column.

Symptoms of the disease include muscular weakness and spasms. An increase in tendon reflexes and spasticity may precede atrophy in the hands, forearms, and legs. Early literature states that the onset of ALS  generally begins in middle age and progresses rapidly and death usually occurs within two to five years. The incidence of the disease is greater among males. That early literature is being changed as younger people and more women are being diagnosed.  As of to date Wednesday , January 16 , 119 there is no known cure.

This site focuses on our wish to give encouragement, hope, and inspiration to people with ALS, their families and caregivers despite facing a frightening fate. We too know first hand that life is not just mysterious and unpredictable,  life can also be unbearably cruel and breathtakingly wonderful, some times at the very same moment.
